When is the Feria de Abril in Seville?

Although the dates may vary from year to year, in general, the “Feria de Abril” in Seville is held every year in April, two weeks after Easter.

This year 2024, the Fair will begin next Sunday 14th April at 00:00 hours and will end on Saturday 20th April.

Just before the inauguration, the legendary “pescaito dinner” is held on Saturday 13 April, which marks the opening of the festival. And one day later, the traditional “Domingo de resaca” takes place, which brings the Feria to an end with the last bullfight.

 

Where is the Feria de abril in Seville?

The heart of the celebration is in the Gran Recinto Ferial, better known as the Real de la Feria de Sevilla, which is characterised by being an enclosure prepared for the occasion. Multitude of streets full of stalls decorated with coloured lanterns that are responsible for providing colour and illumination. Constantly crossed by riders on horseback and the traditional carriages. The Sevillian costumes, music and the smell of “pescaito frito” (fried fish) are classic elements.

Location of the Feria de Abril in Seville:

The fairgrounds are located in the Los Remedios district of Seville, specifically on Calle Joselito el Gallo, and although it is slightly away from the centre, it is perfectly connected, and you can get there quickly and easily by metro, bus, taxi or private car. And if you are not in a hurry, you can also walk there without any problems.

The night of the alumbrao, the most special moment of the Fair

The “noche del alumbrao” is the night that officially inaugurates the April Fair in Seville. With the lighting of the monumental façade that leads to the entrance to the fairgrounds with thousands of light bulbs at 00:00 hours on the opening Sunday. From that moment onwards, the “casetas” open their doors.

For the people of Seville, the night of the alumbrao is as important as New Year’s Eve, and tradition dictates that this night marks the beginning of a new year.

Which are the typical Feria de Abril dresses?

The typical dress of the Seville Fair is the flamenco dress, also known as “traje de gitana”. Which is the most international dress of our country. Known all over the world, and is extolled as the essential attire for the women who go to visit the Fair.

How many “casetas” are there in the Seville Fair?

Although the exact number is still unknown, in 2023 the Feria de Sevilla had a total of 1053 booths. Both public and private, spread over 15 streets named after historic bullfighters.
